AMLR Reference

From AMLD4 to today

Every step in the EU AML/CFT framework with its exact date and what actually changed — an act adopted, published, entering into force, a directive's transposition deadline, or an RTS moving from consultation to final report.

Compiled from the Official Journal, AMLA and EBA publications and verified source by source. Dates are the official ones; where only a month could be established, the day is omitted rather than guessed.

Background — AMLD4 and AMLD5 (2015–2020)

The directive-based regime that still governs today. AMLD4 set the framework; AMLD5 extended it to crypto-asset service providers, prepaid cards and beneficial ownership register access. Both are repealed by AMLD6 with effect from 10 July 2027.

What this chronology does not claim

  • No AMLA final report has yet been adopted by the European Commission as a delegated or implementing regulation and published in the Official Journal. Every RTS and ITS listed for 2025–2026 is still a draft.
  • For a few items AMLA's overview page states only the month, not the day — the draft ITS under Article 81(1) AMLR and the draft ITS under Article 41(2) AMLAR. The day is left out here rather than guessed.
  • AMLA's consultations and regulatory instruments pages are the authoritative running index and are updated continuously. The nightly check reads them; anything it finds appears on the News page.
